What are you looking for in an applicant?

Our ideal candidates have a genuine interest in making a positive impact on the world, the willingness and self-awareness to identify personal and professional areas of growth, and the cooperative and social skills to contribute positively in a group setting. We seek individuals who are self-motivated and have a proven record of high professional performance, but who are comfortable with ambiguity and able to adapt to changing work environments and projects.  While admission is competitive and we are not always able to take all qualified applicants for a particular program, we believe in the power and promise of a diverse cohort.

What is the range of age and work experience?

Our previous Fellows have primarily been MBAs from top business schools between their first and second year, although we have had post-second year and law school Fellows as well. Most have come from a professional background in the private sector, though some have already had experience in the social sector.

What does the professional and personal development portion of the Fellowship offer?

For one day/week of the externship, and 2 additional full weeks of the program, we come together as a cohort to participate in a professional and industry curriculum. This includes exposure to industry leaders via themed panel discussions, site visits to partner organizations, small group skill workshops, and breakout cohorts to work in small groups on client projects.

How do you pair fellows with clients for their externship project?

We work carefully with our clients to scope MBA-level, real-time projects for our fellows to tackle during their externship. As with all consulting firms, we can't tell you in advance which client you will be assigned to, but after admission we do offer you sterilized descriptions of our current client projects and ask you to rank your preferences. Our clients range from traditional nonprofits to early-stage social ventures to large corporations.

What is the compensation for the program?

We are able to offer our Fellows a stipend of $3000 for the summer, which is most commonly subsidized by their business school. We are happy to help fill out any paperwork or provide any information necessary to help applicants receive additional external funding.
