What a joy to start Sunday in Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs, even in 90+ degree heat. First of all because its a gorgeous old octagonal building that houses an elegantly and harmoniously diverse spiritual community.
But today in particular, we were blessed by the presence of Margaret Marshall, former Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Court, as well as Harvard General Counsel and sundry other impressive titles. Being South African born and the former president of that country’s national student union (in the 60s!), she spoke today about Nelson Mandela’s laudable commitment to the rule of law. I won’t attempt to recreate her eloquence on that subject, just entreat you to watch this video she cited.
"Music and dancing is what makes me at peace with the world. And myself." Nelson Mandela on stage with Johnny Clegg, 1999.
