Earned Income Strategies for Not-for-Profits

Inspiring Capital started as a consulting firm to help nonprofits find more sustainable ways to finance their work so we have a special love for earned income strategies. Simply put, earned income is a value-for-value exchange. Examples include, fee for service, sliding scale pricing / cross subsidy, government contracts, merchandising, and cause marketing. Below are our most relevant case studies in this area: SHIFT NC (Sexual Health Initiatives For Teens) is a statewide nonprofit leading North Carolina to improve adolescent and young adult sexual health. By increasing awareness, disseminating data, improving policy, supplying professional development, and providing leadership, we are empowering North Carolina’s professionals to support healthy development.  Welcoming America leads a movement of inclusive communities becoming more prosperous by making everyone feel like they belong. The Food Shuttle saves 6 million pounds of healthy food from being thrown away and re-routes it to these people in need. Almost 35% of what we distribute is fresh produce. This food comes from retail food donations, the Food Shuttle Teaching Farm, volunteer food drives, and field gleaning
